Mesothelioma Asbestos Treatment Discussion

Mesothelioma Asbestos Treatment Discussion
By Husseiny Ahmed

When we talk about asbestos mesothelioma cancer, we will talk about the Asbestos as the main cause of this rare type of cancer that can develop in the pleura, the peritoneum and the pericardium areas. For the pleura area, when the person exposes to Asbestos material, the person will inhale these Asbestos materials that reach to the outer membrane of the lungs and settle in the pleura to make a malignant tumor after a very long time that may be 35 years.

Asbestos are very dangerous minerals that was used in the construction field, they was used in many products as the cement. Everyone who has exposed to these materials would be in a very dangerous situation because most workers that were dealing with Asbestos were diagnosed as mesothelioma cancer cases in these days.

KThe treatment options for mesothelioma Asbestos cancer may be surgery, chemical drugs and radiation therapy. The surgery would be more effective method that the other options. In the surgery option, the tumors should be removed surgically. Not only the tumor, but also some parts of the tissue that surrounds the tumor. The surgery is also the best method to treat the benign mesothelioma to remove the non malignant tumors.

The using of chemical drugs "Chemotherapy" is also a very good method to destroy the cancer cells, by using some special chemical materials that have a powerful effect on the cancer cells. It should be used after the surgery to remove all remain cells of the malignant tumor.

The radiation therapy is one of the most used option to treat cancers, it also can be used with the asbestos mesothelioma cancer to destroy the cancer cells. This method can be occur by using different sorts of radiation such the x-rays and/or gamma-rays.

The Hidden Secrets of Mesothelioma

The Hidden Secrets of Mesothelioma
By Joe Mandove

Mesothelioma is plastered all over television screens and billboards along site roads, however, the meaning of thi cancer is still unknown to most United States citizens. To get straight to the point, Mesothelioma is a cancer that has no cure. There are two forms of this cancer. The pleural form is one of the types. This form is a cancer that develops around the lungs. The other form of cancer, which is much more rare, is a cancer of the stomach. This form of cancer is called Peritoneum cancer. Both of these forms are caused by exposure to asbestos. Usually, once exposed to asbestos, it will take anywhere from twenty to forty years for Mesothelioma to form. This does not meant that if you were a little kid and walked into a shed made primarily of this carinogen material that twenty years from that time you would develop this life ending disease. Even workers who were exposed to asbestos day after day do not and will never get cancer. On the other, hand many industrial workers who handled asbestos every day for years will develop cancer and eventually die from it. This depends on your genetics and the length of time that you were exposed to asbestos. The majority of the people who do develop cancer are in fact blue collar low income laborers who touched asbestos day in and day out without even knowing it. The way they found out was by news or actually getting the symptoms of cancer. This would be like someone working at a Windex factory sitting down to watch the Nightly Evening news and learning that the chemicals in Windex have been discovered to cause cancer. This comparison goes to show the tradgedy of Mesothelioma.

Another tragedy about this disease is that it currently has no cure. The only ways to treat Mesothelioma have little or no success. Helping the victim cope by form of moral support and pain numbing medication are as of today the best ways to deal with this asbestos caused disease.

Spreading knowledge about this incurable victims is the least United States citizens can do to help fight this cause. This is one of the only ways to help, since building resources for a cure for this cancer is one of the best ways to fight it.

Top Mesothelioma Diagnosis Options

Top Mesothelioma Diagnosis Options
By Husseiny Ahmed

The diagnosis of mesothelioma is very difficult for two main reasons, the first one is the time between the exposure to Asbestos and the appearing of the symptoms on the patient. The time between the exposure to asbestos and the appearing of the symptoms may be from 30 to 50 years. Yes, it is very very long time, and that is describe why many of mesothelioma cases are diagnosed nowadays. The Asbestos was using by the construction companies in the past so, mesothelioma that cased by the exposure to Asbestos are discovering now in patient that was working in these companies.

Mesothelioma diagnosis may occur by using some kind of radiations such as x-rays and/or (CT) scan to discover the tumors on the chest cavity, doctor may cut out a small piece from the pleural tissue or peritoneal tissue to test it outside.

Peritoneoscopy: In this case, doctor use a special medical equipment called Thoracoscope, doctor uses this medical equipment to reach the chest cavity and to see any abnormal parts on it. Doctor may cut out a small piece from the pleural tissue if he/she decided that this part must be cut out to be examined outside.

Peritoneoscope: In this medical operation the same thing that was mad with the chest cavity will be repeated with the abdominal cavity to take a look in the abdomen to test the peritoneum. As I wrote before, the peritoneum is the outer line surrounds the internal organs of the abdominal cavity so, doctor uses the peritoneoscope "another medical equipment to test the abdominal tissue" to reach the abdominal cavity and test the affected parts. The same action of cutting out a piece of the peritoneum tissue may be repeated if necessary.

Mesothelioma Research

Mesothelioma Research
By Rebecca Garnett

No matter what type of cancer you have or disease you always want to know that doctors are working on finding a cure.

For Mesothelioma like many other cancers still have no cure.

However doctors are still continuing to find new treatments and hopefully one day a cure.

The downfall with mesothelioma is so many people are diagnosed to late, and unfortunatly is in advanced stages.

Because there has been such an up rise in the disease doctors are starting to take more notice in the cancer.

More researchers are on board now and looking for better treatments and hopefully a cure.

All newly developed drugs are tested in clinics by people who already have mesothelioma.
Of course the sucess of these drugs are found out in these clinics. If they are sucessful they will be approved by the FDA and marketed, or thrown away and have to start all over again.

Chemotherapy is still the most popular treatment for cancer. It is used to relieve symptoms of mesothelioma and to make the patient feel more comfortable.

They are making progress with chemotherapy vs the cancer but still not a cure.
The newest drug is Alimta, when used with another long-used chemo drug called Cisplatin, this is the only FDA approved agent specifically used to fight malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Another drug waiting to be approved by the FDA is called Onconase. Its the first drug in its class that has been shown to target cancer cells while leaving normal cells alone.

There are usually 3 different phases to a clinical trial.

Phase 1-usually they enroll a small group of people and test them on how the new drug is going to react and be administered.

Phase 2-trials usually give early information whether or not a new drug will work. It also provides information about safety and benefits.

Phase 3-they compare the new drugs with the current treatment. Usually people from all over participate in this phase. They will receive the new treatment or the standard treatment.

It's up to you whether you want to participate in a clinical trial. Not everyone is up for being experimented on.

There will always be side effect that are not aware of yet, but the doctors are always there.

Not everybody is going to be eligible to participate in a study, but if you're interested in finding out more information please call toll-free 1-877-FOR-MESO (367-6376)

Also if your interested in seeing all the current clinical trials available please check it out at my website- http://www.mesotheliomadiagnosisandinformation.blogspot.com

It will be under favorite links on the right side of the page.

The Leading Causes of Mesothelioma

The Leading Causes of Mesothelioma
By Alex Scott

What is mesothelioma and how does one get it? When you learn and understand mesothelioma causes, you will know how to avoid this condition and if you already have been diagnosed with it, it will help you determine what may have caused it. For many years, people were unaware of what caused this type of cancer. We now know that 9 out of 10 cases are caused by exposure to asbestos.

Asbestos is a natural mineral that is mined from the rocks in many countries. People who worked in mines were often exposed as well as people who worked in construction because asbestos was used in insulation for homes and buildings. Asbestos fibers are very tiny but strong as steel and can be woven similar to cotton and are resistant to chemicals and to heat.

Prior to around the 1980s, asbestos was commonly used in homes for many different uses. It was also used in construction and ship building. Then it was discovered that when the asbestos is damaged, it releases these tiny fibers that get into the lungs and make it difficult to breathe. These fibers build up in the lungs and cause inflammation and fibrosis. In some cases, this can also lead to cancer in the lungs.

It was in the 1960s that we first began to make the links between asbestos and mesothelioma. In addition to causing lung problems and possible cancer, the fibers from asbestos can be swallowed and this causes problems in the digestive system as well.

Some people and professions that may have been exposed to asbestos. Examples of professions include construction workers, boilermakers, electricians, plumbers, demolition workers, shipbuilders and people who lives or worked with people in these profession or people who lived and worked in places where asbestos was made. People who lived or worked in buildings that had asbestos in them are also at risk. If any of these conditions match you and you were diagnosed with mesothelioma, it was probably caused by this asbestos.

Family members of people who were exposed to asbestos are sometimes affected if the person came home with asbestos on their clothing and bodies. There are rare cases where people have developed this type of cancer and have not been exposed to asbestos. The exact cause of this is unknown but it has been linked to some cases of radiation exposure.

This cancer can appear from 10-60 years after your first exposure to asbestos and this is what made it so long to discover what was causing most cases. There are still people who were exposed years ago that may have yet to have been diagnosed with cancer but it doesn't mean they don't have it or won't get it in the future. Mesothelioma takes time to develop and the more your exposure to asbestos, likely the more severe your symptoms may be.

Mesothelioma is not contagious and it is not spread through coughing, eating or drinking after another person or in any other common way. If someone you know has this type of cancer, you can't catch it from them. There is also no research to show that smoking cigarettes increases your risk of developing mesothelioma. However, if you have already been diagnosed with it, you will likely be advised to stop smoking as it can make your condition worse.

Regardless of what causes your disease, the diagnosis and treatment processes will likely all be the same. However, it is good for many people to try to determine the cause of how they obtained their mesothelioma and in some cases, you may even be able to start a lawsuit against the place that you were exposed in if the exposure occurred after the public had been made aware of the danger. You will need a mesothelioma lawyer to help you with this and you will need to be able to prove your what caused your cancer.

What is Mesothelioma?

What is Mesothelioma?
By Mandy Buchanan

Mesothelioma is a deadly cancer that has recently become a concern amongst many people as the dangers of asbestos and its wide-spread use before the late 1970's become more well-known.

Mesothelioma is a Form of Cancer Caused by Exposure to Asbestos

The first thing to realize about Mesothelioma is that it is a malignant cancer caused usually by exposure to asbestos or asbestos-containing materials. The symptoms of Mesothelioma often do not show up until years after the asbestos exposure.

Mesothelioma is a Malignant Cancer that Affects the Heart, Lungs and Stomach

Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer that affects the linings of the heart, lungs and stomach. The symptoms experienced will therefore differ depending on the organ affected. Peritoneal Mesothelioma (Mesothelioma of the stomach) leads to loss of appetite, pain in the abdomen and problems with bowel functioning. Pleural Mesothelioma on the other hand affects the lungs and chest pain, difficulty breathing, and coughing up blood. All Mesothelioma is malignant and will often lead to death.

How It Is Caused

Although asbestos containing materials may be relatively harmless when contained, when they become damaged or worn asbestos particles may become airborne and these in turn may be inhaled by people who come into contact with the material. When this happens the asbestos particles travel to the lungs where they start to cause damage to the linings of the lungs leading to Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer that is very severe and affects the linings of the heart, lungs and stomach and although causing different symptoms initially may all eventually lead to death. This cancer is generally caused by exposure to asbestos and the inhalation of asbestos particles.
